Gevey SIM Pro Review (Video)+Pictures !

Do you hate those basebands? I know I do !

4.10.01 - 3.10.01 - 2.10.01

All of us are stuck with expensive iPods because Dev-Team is moving slow on their Unlocking feature '' Ultrasn0w’’. All what they are doing to it is just updating the program to work on the latest apple release firmware 4.3.3 but they always miss „hiding’’ to tell us anything about the new baseband unlock , so what are our choices till this moment on unlocking our expensive iPod's ?
First suspect on the scene was a feature called Unlock Forever !
A little bit of history on the matter.
This feature took place a few weeks ago but it only lasted 2-3 weeks then with no warning the service stopped! Why, no one knows exactly what happened, all the speculations went that there was an insider in an apple service in UK, he was introducing IMEI numbers in apple ‘’White‘’ data base to make the phone factory Unlock for life, it was a clever thing but an expensive one as well, the website that started all this was CutYourSim  (Figure 1)  they were charging from 175$,

“The solution we offer is a permanent solution. Jailbreaking or unauthorized hacks are NOT required. This unlock will carry on forever, you can now update your phone to the newest version without worrying about waiting for an unauthorized unlock to be released. The unlock will work with any iPhone version, and any baseband version, no need to worry about updating to the latest version anymore, your phone will be unlocked forever!!!!!100% Guaranteed to Work!  This method is 100% Guaranteed, and the only time we will offer a refund is if you provide video proof that the phone did not get permanently unlocked with our method. ”

Soon every site on the net started to spread the News, but unfortunately as soon as it started it suddenly stopped.

“Today we have decided discontinue the service we offered for remotely unlocking any iPhone.  For the customers who already paid, and received their unlocks a few days ago, they do not need to do anything because they made the cutoff for our service.  All customers who paid via PayPal or Google Checkout will be refunded.  Due to the high number of orders we had, please allow some time before receiving your cancellations/refunds.We do plan on offering iPhone unlocking services in the near future after we send out cancellations and refunds, but the service will be different, it will be for iPhones locked to certain carriers.  Once we take care of the refunds, we will post more about this new service we are going to offer.”

So all of us who did not have the money to buy this service lost every hope for an Unlock!
So I asked myself what other method is out there? Fortunately there was a ‘’Physical’’ One called Gevey SIM, the cost of this Micro SIM Chip when it first started was around 70-100$ it depends from the place you would get it, there were a lot of fake ones in the wild so after a few weeks the distributer of the Gevey ApplenBerry (Figure 2) announced the new one called GEVEY SIM PRO,

The long wait is over, you can now unlock your iPhone 4. GEVEY SIM will work for iOS version 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2, 4.3.3 with baseband 1.59, 2.10, 3.10.1, 4.10.1
The good thing is that the PRO version costs only 35$. But there is a catch , in order to unlock the cellular after inserting the Gevey SIM you have to dial 112 (Emergency Number) for 2 sec then hang up without letting the call continue, this raised a lot of questions of the legitimate of the method, the statement of ApplenBerry on this matter,

„ Is it illegal to dial 112 to unlock my iPhone? IT IS NOT ILLEGAL to dial 112. You're not suppose to connect the call nor wait long enough to let it ring!

Muscle Nerd
MuscleNerd (iPhone Hacker) affirmed that this method is illegal in the USA + Canada, but after a while Sherif Hashim (Another main Key Hacker) tweeted that he bought a Gevey SIM to try it, he stated that the method is legal in Egypt because the 112 is not an emergency number in his country. This led me to be disappointed from those two Hackers because they are the ones who supposed to unlock the new Basebands, what bugged me more is that Sherif bought one & was pleased ( Hello !!! Sherif What about all thousands of us out there stuck with an expensive iPod’s??? ) I took it like a snap on the face or the middle figure raised on my face!
Sherif Hashim
I decided to screw them & buy a GEVEY SIM to see with my own eyes . The thing was that I couldn’t, why? Because I live in Romania & the SIM distributer is in USA! So I decided to forget about it , but after a while I found a forum (iDB) & soon I was made a moderator on it , one day a generous man asked me a few questions on a post of mine about Unlockable Basebands ! I answered him & gave him the advice of buying a GEVEY SIM, he offered to make a donation for me, I told him that it would be better if he would send me a SIM to make a review of it, he agreed & after a while I woke up with the carrier calling me & telling me that the SIM has arrived (DHL from South Africa), so here I am writing a review of it . Thank you JON FREEMAN for your Generosity .

I’ve found out that there is a new SIM called Rebel that will unlock the cellular without dialing 112 ! It turned out that this SIM is a FAKE one, here is a glimpse of Maheshkukreja Website that got their hands on it.

  •      The biggest shock comes. The Sim tray included in the package is actually a GEVEY sim tray. The engraved words have been sanded off.
  •      The Rebel Sim chip is same as that of GEVEY, with a little change in circuit design.
  •        Rebel sim isn’t the same as it was demonstrated previously on Rebel’s site. The IC chip is larger as that of GEVEY. So you’ve to trim your sim a little bit so it fits properly in the sim tray.
  •       Also, Rebel Sim is much thicker than GEVEY sim. So you can face difficulty in pushing the sim tray inside the iPhone. GEVEY Sim slides easily inside the iPhone. The IC of Rebel Sim is also thicker.
  •       If you’re waiting to unlock your iPhone 4, I suggest you buy GEVEY Pro from ApplenBerry Rebel Sim is just a waste of time and money. If you bought Rebel Sim, feel free to share your experiences below..

First Impressions of the GEVEY SIM PRO,

  •  WOW.
  •   Good looking (Polished) Chip.
  •  Small & thin.
  • Good looking package.
I had three different carrier Normal SIM cards to try on the iPhone ( Orange, Vodafone,Cosmote ) , in order to make them work on the iPhone 4 I had to cut them to be a micro SIM, all worked fine, the first guinea pig for testing was Vodafone’s , as instructed on the user manual :

Step 1. Turn off your iPhone & insert your SIM CARD & Gevey SIM together with the metal SIM tray provided

Step 2. Turn on your iPhone & wait for the SIM welcome menu & then select ‘’accept’’

Step 3. Then wait 15 seconds, dial ’’112’’ then click on ‘’SEND’’ hang up within 2 seconds. ( DO NOT let the call to take place )

Step 4. Then go to SETTINGS , & turn AIRPLANE MODE to ON & wait until you see ‘’No Sim Card Installed’’ & then turn off AIRPLANE MODE . Your Phone should have signal after a few seconds.

But after 3 attempts it didn’t work with the Vodafone SIM ( I think it’s an old model ), so I switched for the Orange SIM it worked perfectly from the first attempt, then I’ve inserted the newly bought Cosmote SIM, I powered off the phone inserted the SIM & powered on the device , slide the Unlock & a pop up menu appeared ‘’ SIM Locked ‘’ I’ve pressed Unlock, inserted the PIN number & waited … Pressed again OK still waiting to unlock … I hit again OK for the 3rd time, eventually the SIM unlocked.

After that I got the message to accept the bla bla bla message that poped out, then I dialed 112 for 2 sec, all went well, continued with the instructions on step 4, settings & turn ON AIRPLANE MODE , after this I waited for the No SIM Card INSTALLED , a popup message came out ( SIM Failure ) then it closed automatically & got prompt again for the PIN , I inserted the PIN but this time it unlocked from the first time.
After the PIN the beautiful signals appeared next to the LOGO of the Carrier COSMOTE. I must confess that I jumped from my seat of happiness .
The internet Data plan worked fine without any trouble & the SIM had the full & glorious 5 bars .

 Conclusion,
If you are stuck for way too long (A few Month’s), I advise you to buy one, because no one knows when Dev-Team will release an unlock . If you are worried of calling the 112 don’t buy it. But for GOD sake can’t you count 1 - 2 then hang up!!!
